Pawikan Eco Dive Resort
Pawikan, being the Visaya name for sea turtle, felt like the perfect name because of its symbolic nature and Siquijor being home to many. In several cultures the sea turtle represents a healthy Mother Nature, wisdom and patience. The hope is for our visitors to enjoy a conscious, healthier way of Siquijor Island life and culture. Creating a space for a symbiotic relationship with the sea, island nature and community is our vision.
We offer “native style” seaside bungalows, that are as environmentally friendly as possible, with the resources allotted. As we continue to learn about more efficient ways to create less of a footprint, our standards will evolve. Our beds were made by a local craftier. All materials for the structure were gathered locally and are an abundant way for locals to earn a living. We only use eco friendly cleansers and offer all natural body care products. Even with our high environmental standards, we don’t want to run the risk of anything toxic leaching into the earth or sea. So we ask all guests to either use what we have to offer or to bring their own personal all natural body care products to use.
The focus of our dive operation is to help people enjoy the underwater world in a way that is fun and friendly to sea life. Along with fun dives we also have eco-educational courses and special dives scheduled for clean ups and coral rebuilding. As always we do our best to practice an environmentally conscious way of life in and out of the water. We donate 10% of profits to local eco initiatives, because we hope future generations have a chance to experience the beauty of the ocean. We offer all SSI Scuba courses and diving specialties. We can take you on your very first discovery dive, get you open water certified and even help you to live the dream of becoming a pro. We chose to partner with SSI because we feel that their system is better for the divers, dive center and environment. With their new eco focused Deep Blue program and digitized learning app, SSI leads the way in being environmentally aware and innovative. Even though SSI’s system is advanced, their fee’s are lower than Padi, so we pass that savings to our visitors. All of our gear was bought new and is regularly serviced. We comply with and go above and beyond all safety standards, so our guests can feel at ease. Our hope is that all of our visitors enjoy their time here and continue on to be a little more aware of their impact on Mother Earth.
“Let Food Be Thy Medicine” are wise words. We have a passion to create delicious, healthy, local and organic fusion cuisine for our guests to enjoy. We do our best to source locally and as organic as possible. From the research we’ve found we try to implement the healthiest alternatives in our recipes for food and drinks. However we also know that some things are just yummy and awesome like craft beer! We jam out with live local acoustic music , and our seaside bistro bamboo bar is an awesome place to enjoy the Siquijor sunset.
As the vision continues to evolve and our resources grow we have many additional projects to add to our space. Some of our next projects will be running completely off of solar power, collecting and filtering rain water. We are also developing an organic permaculture farm to supply our bistro and feeding programs for malnourished children in Siquijor. We will keep doing our best to create a slice of heaven in a little corner of the world called Siquijor. What else is possible?
